A Studio of My Own

In what may turn out to be a really silly move, I have agreed to sub-let Geeta’s appartment at the Cloud Club from her for the school year, while she will be employed as a lecturer at UC Berkely.  I’ll be paying her about 2/3 what she pays for the place, on the condition that she can come stay there whenever she wants.  That’s $500 a month for an entire floor of a brownstone.  I mean, it’s not huge, but right now I’m paying $200 a month for one half of a 10′x10′ room at Brambleberry.  It will be plenty of space to set up an eisel and screen printing stuff at the same time. Plus I’ll have access to the garden and the cloud club, which will be nice.

The trick is that I’m going to keep living at Brambleberry, and it’s about half an hour to get from here to there.  Maybe less on a bike, I’ll try that out tonight.  Plus, it’ll up my burn rate to something like $2000/month, and I said I’d rent it starting in September, which will basically probably be $500 down the drain because I don’t see myself having much time this month to do anything useful.  She’ll also be leaving a lot of her furniture there, and her plants, both of which have their good and bad aspects.  Also, she’s planing on coming back in May, so if it turns out to be completely awesome, I will be sad to have to give it up (though happy to have Geeta back).

I’m getting the key tonight.  I’m pretty excited.

Purple, Pink, and Turquoise LEDs!

Purple, pink, and turquoise LEDs.

I think these new LEDs look particularly nice.  They are available at Newark for about a buck each.  I’m thinking of getting some to play with.  They claim to operate with a forward current of 100mA, so they ought to be quite bright (20mA is normal for your typical “superbright” LED).

Discreet Music

I have really been excited about Brian Eno’s Discreet Music album this past week.  I’ve listened to the second track at least three times today, and the entire album an average of twice a day every day since Friday.

I went to a party at the Cloud Club on Saturday.  It was hosted by Valerie and Vessla, of Fluttr, and now of Goli.  It was a decent party, but more of a crowded, somewhat poorly designed concert.  Anyway, I ended up hanging out with Geeta untiil the wee hours nerding about Brian Eno and David Bowie.  She showed me how if you slow down the intro to “No One Receiving” off of “Before and After Science” it is the exact same song as “M386″ off of “Music for Films.”  She also forced a copy of a book about David Bowie’s “Low” on me.  Turns out he was really into Discreet Music when he started the Low sessions, told Eno he’d been listening to it non stop.

Hipster Circus

It has been a while since I’ve been active here.  I forgot about it for a while.  Glad to see that it is still active.

I registered myself as sole proprieter of a small business in Massachusetts on Friday.  It’s a weird feeling.  I had to do it in order to get a state Tax ID, which I need to set up a wholesale account with American Apperal.  I know, I know, American Apperal is super-hipster, but they make a claim about “superiour screen printing results” that I find intrigueing, and their prices are actually not that bad.  I registered the business with the name “Solid State Circus.”  Now I just need to wrestle Sherri for full control of solidstatecircus.com.
