interview!

the guy who reviewed my comic last week also decided to feature me in an interview on his site. my first ever interview! eep! hopefully i answered his questions ok. maybe new people i haven’t met will decide to buy my comics now.

in other news, i bought a gocco press! one of the fancier variety with the registration plates for doing multiple colors/screens easily. i plan on using the hell out of this for my new comics.

i also made a four page poem comic that i will scan and put up on my flickr page right now. it’s the first thing in my new sketchbook. moleskine #7!! sometimes i can’t believe how fast i go through them.

funny things?

We went to the Lawrence Hall of Science yesterday– It’s mostly a kid oriented science-y place with some neat stuff. We went down to the Biology Lab where there were tons of cute critters all over the place. One of the staff guys brought out a legless lizard (looks very much like a snake but entirely isn’t). The legless lizard wasn’t very happy being handled and petted so much and it was all squirmy and feisty. The guy mentioned to the crowd that the lizard was not happy… Out of the small crowd a mom said to the guy “Maybe he needs prozac, they give dogs prozac.” WTF! The thing is she seemed slightly serious, as in it didn’t sound or look like a joke at all. I don’t know, maybe it was totally a joke on her part, a very strange joke…

milk?

Filed under:love hate, milk — posted by hlg on June 21, 2008 @ 7:23 pm

what can I drink when I can no longer drink cow’s milk or soy milk (for that matter any dairy or soy products)? I have tried “hemp milk” — I wouldn’t really call it milk. It’s very nutty and savory and well, it does have some good nutritional values but I sure would not call it milk. Who needs milk anyhow? Babies, I guess.

in radio country

Theo and i have been brainstorming about a play he wants to do using static coming in from the background like waves and periodically maybe having radio noises jump in over the performers, so today we got together and recorded some stuff. This came out of it, which i think is really beautiful and contains the amazing amazing caravelle’s performance of ‘you don’t have to be a baby to cry‘ which i’ve only just learned about. (warning: the radio country recording is kind of quiet, and the caravelle’s recording is kind of loud, so don’t get a volume shock)

in other news, for those who have lost track at home, photoshop disasters has a pretty funny new post with a five hunderd thousand dollar vampire check. i’m guessing ‘azoogle ads’ has a really disgruntled designer.

i got my first ever review today

on comicbookgalaxy.com.

It’s a surprisingly good review! Here’s the last bit:
“Jumbly Junkery is the most promising mini-comic I’ve read in quite some time, the sort of thing that always makes me hungry for more.”

Let’s just hope that all the other reviews I get are this good :)

(p.s. if you’re interested, you can buy my new comic on etsy.com)

mark and i showed up to max van kleek’s great wmbr show, DarkBOT Radio and we played for half an hour. i think it came out pretty well, though in the future i think we should bring some reverb or something for the vocals. a recording is up here!

fluble now fafblog

i used to be a fan of chris mastrangelo’s student newspaper comic (now deceased) fluble. apparently in 2003 he started writing a blog, and it’s pretty funny.

i’ve decided that i’m getting too worked up about trying to make the perfect comeback post, so instead i decided to make a whole lot of imperfect posts whenever possible. we’ll see if it works :)

ps. here is the last fluble comic, all about the anxieties of moving on into the real world.

writing

i’ve been having this angst about making comics, and it’s all tied in with the writing part. more specifically… i want to make non-traditional (non-linear?) narratives, but have nothing to base it on. james joyce just seems a bit intimidating. any suggestions?

(p.s. check out my latest comic. five pages just in the past 3 days!)
